Shelby County Genealogical Society Meeting Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. Ross Historical Center Paleography for Genealogists Presented by Amie Bowser Tennant What is Paleography? The study of ancient writing systems and the deciphering and dating of historical manuscripts has always been important to genealogists. Writing systems have changed over time and now more than ever reading handwritten documents is becoming more difficult. Join us for this lecture as we travel through time and cultures studying the five writing systems of the world. We will particularly focus on the writing and abbreviations in documents found in colonial American records of the 1600-1800s. Amie Bowser Tennant is a professional research genealogist, speaker, and writer. She has a bachelor's degree in Advanced Family History Research and Professional Studies and works for FamilySearch as a blogger. In addition to FamilySearch, Amie's writings have been published in the NGS Magazine, the Ohio Genealogical Society Quarterly, and many other journals and magazines. Her expertise is heavy in the Midwest and southern United States and Eastern Native American research. We hope to see you there!
