About This Event

The City of Owensboro’s Edge Ice Center will host the 14th annual Living on the Edge ISI Invitational Skating Competition, March 6-8. Over 160 skaters represent the six competing teams, which include the Robert Unger Ice Chalet, Knoxville, Tennessee; Lou and Gib Reese Ice Arena, Newark, Ohio; St. Peters Rec-Plex, St. Peters, Missouri; Webster Groves Ice Arena, Webster Groves, Missouri; US Ice Sports Complex, Huntsville, Alabama; and the City of Owensboro’s Edge Ice Center.     Staff at Visit Owensboro assisted City staff with securing hotel rooms for the event and in preparing welcome packets for the visiting skaters.  "The team at Visit Owensboro is excited to welcome ISI Invitational participants to the city. While competing at the world-class Edge Ice Center, we hope that skaters and their families get a chance to enjoy all that Owensboro has to offer. Good luck to everyone competing, and we hope your stay in Owensboro is one to remember!" said Lucas Danhauer, Sports Destination Development for Visit Owensboro.   The Owensboro Edge Ice Center team includes Figure Skating Club members and skaters from the Edge’s Learn to Skate program between the ages of 4 and 60 years old. According to Kerry Bodenheimer, team coach, the team has been practicing hard and is ready to compete. A new event for the local skaters is Theatre Production, choreographing 24 skaters in one number. “This new event for our local skaters allows some of them to also skate alongside siblings, parents, and grandparents in a theatre production number, which uses fun costumes and props to tell the story of Peter Pan. The production earned first place last weekend in St. Louis, so the skaters are excited to perform it on home ice. It's a lot of fun, and I’ve been so impressed at how quickly our newer skaters have adapted to the routine,” states Kerry.   The competition will start at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 6, and go on until 10 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, events start at 7 a.m. and take place all day and evening. There are no admission fees, and spectators are welcome. The facility will be closed for public skating throughout the weekend. A full schedule of events and competition skaters will be posted at owensboroparks.org the week of the competition.   Contact the Edge Ice Center at (270) 687-8624 for more information.
