Join FreeThe City of Elmhurst’s Public Arts Commission (PAC) invites community members of all ages to attend a series of free, hands-on, drop-in collage workshops celebrating America’s 250th anniversary - a program a part of the Explore Elmhurst America250 celebration. The workshops will be led by nationally featured mixed-media artist and Elmhurst resident Donna Castellanos. Participants of all ages are invited to create their own fine-art collage using Castellanos’s hand-carved stamps of historical figures, including George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman. Guests will also stamp, layer and design with vintage book pages, maps, and historical ephemera. The workshops are designed as an inclusive, drop-in experience with all materials provided. Castellanos’s collaborative collage work was recently featured at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, where participants contributed to a large-scale public artwork celebrating American history.
