SUMMARY:The Lowest Pair
DESCRIPTION:Doors 6PM | Show 7PM$15 ADV | $20 DOSThe Lowest PairThe Lowest Pair has questions. The duo\, made up of Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee\, know that we tend to see duality as a problem. We want life to be linear\, working through the dark to finally get to the light. Grief to joy\, despair to hope\, confusion to claritynot a jangly cycle we cant escape. But through their incandescent folk songs\, the Lowest Pair often ask: What if we sit with the mess? What if thats not just more peaceful\, but more magical\, too? Fare thee well and go to hell\, I love you and Im mad at you. Its such a theme in my life\, Winter says\, then laughs. Wishing things were different but loving all of it\, too.On their 8th album Always As Young As Well Ever Be\, the Lowest Pair prove that over the last dozen years together\, theyve become some of modern roots musics most mesmerizing\, thoughtful purveyors. Produced by Tucker Martine (The Decemberists)\, the 10-track album puts the duos stark lyricism\, string-driven arrangements\, and raw compatibility on brilliant display. Were both trying to make space for each other rather than crowd each other out\, Lee says\, reflecting on why the Lowest Pair works. Were doing a lot of listening and reacting to what the other person is doing. Lees speaking voice is a comforting echo of his singing voice\, soft and precise. Winter talks like she sings\, too\, sweet and raspy. Heard together\, the effect is both soothing and scintillating\, like a crisp mountain stream smoothing rocks. The Lowest Pairs musicianship is another beautiful testament not just to playing that breathes\, but playing that listens. Winter\, who grew up in Arkansas but has lived in Washington State for the last two decades\, and Lee\, a Minnesota native\, first gained attention as poetic singer-songwriters on banjos. While their family of strings has expandedWinter plays more guitar on the new record than she ever has beforetheir fundamental approach hasnt: Respond to sounds and stories the other is making.

SUMMARY:Aaron Lee Tasjan
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7PM | Show 8PM$25 ADV | $30 DOS21+Aaron Lee Tasjan was experiencing the worst bout of imposter syndrome of his career when he sat down and wrote Todd Snider a vulnerable email asking for advice. Tasjan\, despite writing and recording some of the most astute Americana rock songs of the last decade and being nominated for a Grammy\, just didnt see a future for an independent singer\, songwriter\, and guitarist like himself.Snider read Tasjans email and immediately replied: I think I have some ideas. Ill write you back tomorrow. The next morning\, Tasjan awoke to a signature Todd Snider missive for how to move forward as an artist. It was a novel-length email that read like the battle plans for the Invasion of Normandy. Do this\, Snider wrote. Then this. But never that. The specifics dont matter besides\, thatd be giving away the secret but Tasjan devoured his mentors words and took them to heart. He began writing feverishly\, unbothered by expectations and immune to any pressure to match his acclaimed albums like In the Blazes\, Karma for Cheap\, or his most recent\, 2024s Stellar Evolution. When he was through\, Tasjan had Get Over It\, Underdog\, his most inspiring LP to date. Produced by Tasjan and his longtime sound engineer Mark Miller\, the album is a celebration of the power of songwriting\, the unbreakable bond of friendship\, and the determination of the dark horse.I went to the ultimate oasis for a singer\, songwriter\, and troubadour: Todd Snider. And he said\, in very Todd fashion\, You can find your path forward by going backwards\, Tasjan says with a laugh. But he was right. I set aside my ego\, played shows solo without my band\, and wrote a lot of songs. In that process\, I found my confidence again.Tragically\, however\, he lost his mentor. Snider died shortly after Get Over It\, Underdog\, was finished\, leaving a void in the folk-rock scene that will prove nearly impossible to fill. But Tasjan is committed to carrying on Sniders unbridled spirit and lifting up underdogs everywhere.Over 11 tracks\, Tasjans new album kills sacred cows and pokes holes in the dam\, while leaning hard into the idea of perseverance. In the talking-blues of Science Friction\, he tells an abridged origin story of civilization that culminates with humankind editing itself out of its own picture. Man made machines/putting man out of business\, he sings witha knowing wink. Lost meanwhile\, finds him feeling like a stranger in this town. Its a compact blast of indie-rock with a sing-along chorus that underscores Tasjans gift for writing infectious hooks.

DESCRIPTION:Doors 7PM | Show 8PM $20 ADV | $25 DOS 21+ Hannah Wicklund is a South-Carolina-born rock musician who has spent more than two decades connecting people over her raw vocal power\, world class guitar playing and awe inspiring live performances. Blending the raw power of rock n' roll\, soul and psychedelic\, Wicklund creates music for those seeking authenticity\, human connection and creative freedom in an increasingly disconnected world. Her career began as a child performing with her band on the beaches of Hilton Head Island\, South Carolina. After an early graduation from High School\, she hit the road and hasn't looked back since performing in over 20 countries from intimate clubs to some of the world's biggest stages. Over the years\, Wicklund has earned praise from Rolling Stone\, Guitar World and Billboard. Her commanding live performances\, musicianship and fiercely independent creative vision have helped build a devoted audience spanning generations and walks of life. Now\, Hannah enters her most ambitious chapter yet with her fourth studio album\, War on Women\; Calling All Good Men (Out 8/28/26). Across 13 tracks\, she moves fearlessly through rock\, soul\, blues\, folk\, gospel\, psychedilia and pop\, creating a record that can be both beauty and beast. Born from her experiences navigating power\, betrayal\, love and the expectations placed upon women to make themselves smaller\, the album is deeply personal and a call-to-arms for change\, and a tale of heartbreak in strange circumstances. Laying bare the obstacles Hannah overcame to take back control of her career\, and offers hope for the future.

It helped earn her both the title of \, "rdquo" -> Kentucky Colonel" --- an honor recognizing goodwill ambassadors of Kentucky's culture and traditions --- and a spot in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's annual American Currents exhibit in 2024. \, "rdquo" -> True outlaw shit is sticking to your guns\, and I feel like I'm doing that\," Waldon says. \, "rdquo" -> I'm not saying I'm unbreakable\, but I feel almost unbreakable. I've already hurt the worst that I could and lived to tell the story. We can be thankful for our ghosts."

SUMMARY:WYEP Presents: Charlie Parr
DESCRIPTION:WYEP Presents:https://wyep.org/Sat Nov 21st Doors 7PM | Show 8PM$25 ADV | $30 DOS21+ Rolling Stone has called Charlie Parrs music a gritty blend of Delta blues and Depression-era roots music soaked in his hardscrabble voice. Its a sacred realm of folk wisdom and sorrowful vulnerability. NPR said he offers expertly-picked resonator guitar and lyrics that puncture the soul. Parr tours prolifically\, and has performed at tastemaker events like the Newport Folk Fest and Pickathon. The Duluth-based guitarist\, songwriter\, and interpreter of traditional music has released twenty albums over two-and-a-half decades and has been known to perform up to 275 shows a year. Parr is a folk troubadour in the truest sense: taking to the road between shows\, writing and rewriting songs as he plays\, fueled by a belief that music is eternal and cannot be claimed or adequately explained. The sounds from his working-class upbringingincluding Folkways legends such as Lead Belly and Woody Guthrieimbue Parrs music with stylistic echoes of blues and folk icons of decades past. Parr sees himself merely as a continuer of a folk tradition.Parrs mastery of his craft is only more apparent when contextualized within the history of folk tradition to which Parr has dedicated his practice. The land and lives around and intersecting with Parr have always influenced him\, from the hills and valleys of Hollandale\, Minnesota to the Depression-era stories from his father.Parrs first album with Smithsonian Folkways\, Last of the Better Days Ahead (2021)\, foregrounded his lyrical craftsmanship and sophisticated bluesman confidence\, with spare production highlighting Parrs mastery of guitar and elevating his blues poetry. In his 2024 release\, Little Sun\, Parr weaved together stories celebrating music\, community\, and communing with nature. In doing so\, he put forth an ambitious and raw album that exemplifies the best of Parrs sound: his blend of the blues and folk traditions with the steadfast originality of a poet. Now\, he continues that tradition with 2026s poignant and timely Rooming House\, which joins the chorus of WPA-era socially-conscious folk operas and outlaw country concept albums of the 1970s to poignantly allegorize his experiences and the experiences of the people around him.

SUMMARY:Magnolia Boulevard w/ Madison Hughes
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7PM | Show 8PM$15 ADV | $20 DOS21+With a southern rock tinged flavor of soulful americana\, and a powerful female vocalist reminiscent of Tedeschi Trucks Band\, Magnolia Boulevard has blossomed through devastation since forming in 2017. They pushed through the turmoil of COVID-19 that devastated the music industry\, the sorrow following the death of their beloved drummer\, and the joys of welcoming Maggies daughter into the world. Much like the band members of Magnolia Boulevard have endured the highs and lows of the past few years\, so has their music. The bands emphatic and empowering anthems of love\, self-discovery\, grief\, and uncertainty serve as a lesson to us all about lifes unpredictable nature and how to better live in the moment so we can appreciate everything and everyone around us before theyre gone.If patience is a virtue\, then the current state of Magnolia Boulevard plays right into the long-held notion that sonic grandeur evolves in its own time and place one where the Lexington\, Kentucky\, rock-n-soul act is aiming to break into a national audience ready and roaring for the quintets soaring talents.Formed in 2017 by Noelle and Allen\, the band came together when other creative endeavors werent fulfilling the artistic desires and professional expectations of what the duo were envisioning. It was time to push down the gas pedal on the possibility and potential of what Magnolia Boulevard could be\, and ultimately has become in sonic design and in the live realm. The sound has been described as Appalachian Soul\, and I really like that because of our Appalachian roots\, Noelle says. You get a taste of folk with the songwriting portion\, but you also have that rock and soul foundation. Madison Hughes will make you feel like someone finally said the thing out loud. Not loudly. She doesnt need to be. Her voice carries the kind of weight that sneaks up on you\, warm and unhurried\, until a single line stops you mid-drive and you sit in the parking lot a little longer than you planned. She grew up in Ponte Vedra Beach\, Florida\, idyllic by every measure\, rooted in the same coastal Southern soil that gave the world Lynyrd Skynyrd\, Tom Petty\, the Allman Brothers\, Tedeschi Trucks Band\, and Ray Charles. Music was in the air before it was ever a choice. Her fathers folk-rock records: Springsteen\, Jackson Browne\, Bonnie Raitt\, Sheryl Crow\, Gillian Welch. Her mothers soft devastation: Dido\, Sarah McLachlan\, the Cranberries\, Norah Jones. The grit and the tenderness both took root. She started writing songs in high school because heartbreak cracked her open and she couldnt say the hard things any other way. That instinct never left. Her sound refuses to sit still\, grunge-folk grit threaded through country soul\, blues-pop hooks bleeding into indie Americana\, all of it held together by feel rather than formula. In high school she was the girl who sat with everyone at lunch\, allergic to the idea that you had to pick a side. Thats still who she is. The genre-crossing isnt a strategy. Its just her nature.
