Assassination. Subjugation. Deportation. We argue with each other while the rich get richer and cruelty is normalized. These are just a few of the reasons why the title of The Casualties' new album is Detonate. \, "rdquo" -> It stems from being overloaded\," drummer Marc \, "rdquo" -> Meggers" Eggers says. \, "rdquo" -> You feel like your head is about to explode\, which I think is what everybody is feeling these days. You're pounced on day by day with terrible news and social media\, and you just feel like you're going to snap." \, "rdquo" -> Not too long ago\, we were stuck in COVID\," guitarist Jake Kolatis adds. \, "rdquo" -> Now we're trying to get back to normal life\, and the world has gone crazy. There are continuous wars and internal political battles here. Everybody's tearing each other apart. Detonate is saying we're tired of all this division. With this record\, we have a chance to say something and promote some type of unity." Detonate is the second chapter in a new epoch for The Casualties. As their second album with David Rodriguez at the mic\, it solidifies the vocalist's partnership with Meggers and Kolatis. \, "rdquo" -> It's like a new era for the band\," Meggers says. \, "rdquo" -> It solidifies that Dave is here to stay." With the unblinking eyes of the punk world on them\, The Casualties pulled the blinds and did what they do best. \, "rdquo" -> There was a degree of pressure\, but not from outside sources\," Rodriguez says. \, "rdquo" -> We just wanted to do the best record that we could that honors The Casualties name and history without playing the same song over and over. But it wasn't that we even had to go out of our way. It felt natural to write this new music." Ultimately\, Detonate amplifies the punk ethos that The Casualties have embodied since 1990: A raised fist in the face of oppression. \, "rdquo" -> I want people to feel empowered when they hear this record\," Rodriguez says. \, "rdquo" -> I want them to feel like they have a voice. I want them to feel like they're with like-minded people when they come to a Casualties show. They can be themselves and not watch the show but be part of the show---scream with us\, jump off the stage. We want them to feel like they're part of something." I might like a particular guitar tone from it\, and then I bring it into my world. The album also features a long list of musicians including Rocco Palladino\, Elijah Fox\, AoD\, J Warner\, Marco Bernardis and longtime collaborator\, Yussef Dayes.MALIK embodies the melting pot of sounds that reflects Vennas environment. Venna doesnt want to be rooted in jazz alone\; his previous work for the likes of Burna Boy\, Beyonc\, Kali Uchis\, Wizkid\, Knucks\, J Hus and many more indicates that his saxophone was made for an expansive range of sounds.Speaking on the mood his debut album wants to evoke\, Venna says: Its wherever you feel safe\, where you feel vulnerable\, where you feel like you can be lost\, wherever you feel like you can be yourself. It could be in your car\, in your bathtub\, or at your favourite restaurant. It could be within the arms of your loved one. Thats the beauty of it.Venna doesnt see any of the albums features as mere guests but as collaborators and teammates while he steers the ship. In many ways\, the process of making MALIK placed Venna into the role of band leader. However\, Venna saw the process as a collective experience.Bringing a group of musicians together isnt easy when the music feels bigger than any individual\, trying not to get too lost in the ephemeral that comes with recording sessions. It was a learning experience for Venna\, and finding the right balance was key during the incubation of MALIK.In recent years\, Yussef Dayes\, in particular\, has been a guiding light for Venna as he navigates these early stages of his career. Many forget that hes still a young man trying to make sense of his place in the world and through Dayes\, Venna has been shown just how far and expansive his art can be. Its serendipitous that MALIK will be released on Dayes label\, Cashmere Thoughts.Its easy to categorise any music with horns and a rhythm section as jazz in the UK\, but Venna has long tried to avoid the finite limitations of that label. There are elements of jazz on MALIK but also bossa nova\, RI purposely made an album that doesnt fit into any genres\, because I dont see myself as a genre. I see myself as a person with the music. I see it as if I get given the music to give to you\, he says\, My foundation of music is jazz - I will never not be jazz\, these are my roots but I think the music stretches to a world beyond any genres. and you can feel that in this record.Its a beautiful rarity when an artist sees themselves as a vessel of the music\, and though MALIK is a manifestation of his experiences and how he sees the world and years of craft\, Venna wants MALIK to be an invitation. An invitation to let go\, be present and submit to sensory experiences.

DESCRIPTION:Carsie Blanton is a songwriter with hooks\, chutzpah\, and revolutionary optimism. A radical folk artist in the tradition of Woody Guthrie\, her infectious melodies and lyrical wit keep listeners rapt while she conjures spirits of vaudeville\, campfire singalongs\, and punk rock. Blanton and her road-tested band deploy humor\, camaraderie\, and considerable musical muscle to enroll each audience in a rare vision of hope and solidarity. In addition to writing and performing music\, Carsie works as a political organizer and activist. In fall of 2025\, she participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla\, a direct action to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza by sailboat. In early October\, after a month at sea\, she was imprisoned in Israel for five days along with hundreds of her comrades. Soon after\, Blanton released The Little Flame\, a song of solidarity covered widely on social media during her detention. The Little Flame features background vocals from Irish band Ye Vagabonds and Carsie's Palestinian/New Zealander prison-mate Rana Hamida\, and appears on her latest album\, The Red Album Vol II. After two decades spent on the road\, Blanton has amassed a dedicated fan base and a small menagerie of viral hits\, and regularly sells out mid-size venues across the U.S. and Europe. 2026 will find her touring heavily with her own band and in collaboration with Canadian folk-punk rabblerousers The Burning Hell\, as well as continuing her organizing work with Artists Against Apartheid and the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
