Join FreeEleven Bartholomew County MIA soldiers are being remembered with the DAR Downtown Window Walk. Starting Sept. 3, as part of downtown Columbus' First Thursdays, 11 businesses will each exhibit a poster of one of these soldiers in a store window. The men's in-depth stories and photos will be displayed inside along with a map of the entire DAR Downtown Window Walk. Posters and information will be at Bespoke, Blondie's Salon, Boutique Elise, Chapter Two, Columbus Visitors Center, Downtown Development, Gramz Bakery, Hotel Indigo, Pollert Design, Viewpoint and Zen Wellness. In addition, Daughters of the American Revolution has sponsored banners along Washington Street. The Bartholomew County WWII MIAs on the banners are Aaron Essex, Jack Hogan, George Irwin, Chester McNealy, Richard Regan, Frank Sachleben, Francis Scheidt, James Stringer, and Ellis Whitis. Soldiers William Lucas and John Trotter were also later discovered to be from Bartholomew County. Both the Window Walk and banners will be displayed during all of September for everyone to remember and learn about the sacrifices of local military men.
