Beginning with a series of soft-launch previews Aug. 23-25 and an official kickoff on National Dog Day, Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, the Inn's beloved Yappy Hour returns as an ongoing program at Terry's Restaurant + Lounge, running every Sunday through Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. More than a happy hour, Yappy Hour is a celebration of everything the Cypress Inn stands for: warm hospitality, coastal California fare, and an unconditional love of animals. Leashed, well-mannered dogs and the people who love them are invited to gather on Terry's heated outdoor deck and in its vintage-poster-lined lounge as the Carmel afternoon slips toward evening -- continuing the legacy Doris Day built in making the Inn one of the nation's most welcoming destinations for four-legged guests. Paws & Pour at the Inn - A National Dog Day Kickoff Paws & Pour at the Inn · Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026 · 4-7 p.m. The program officially launches with Paws & Pour at the Inn, a festive National Dog Day celebration held in the hotel's courtyard and Terry's Restaurant + Lounge on Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. In partnership with Tito's Handmade Vodka, the evening will feature handcrafted cocktails, dog- and human-friendly giveaways, and a monetary donation from Love, Tito's to the Doris Day Animal Foundation -- continuing the Inn's longstanding commitment to animal welfare. Adding to the celebration will be live music by Ruby Slippers, featuring Greg Freeman on guitars and vocals and Kimb Massey on vocals, flute, melodica, and harmonica. Known for digging a little deeper than the usual playlist, Ruby Slippers brings new life to songs audiences love -- including some they may have forgotten they loved. Their wide-ranging repertoire moves easily from The Beatles, Neil Young, Norah Jones, Sheryl Crow, Tracy Chapman, and Dolly Parton to Steely Dan, Leonard Cohen, Hall & Oates, Kacey Musgraves, and Brazilian favorites performed in Portuguese. It's an eclectic, relaxed mix perfectly suited to an afternoon of cocktails, dogs, friends, and live music in the Cypress Inn courtyard. Established in 2004 by animal behaviorist Colleen Paige, National Dog Day raises awareness about pet adoption, responsible pet ownership, and the organizations dedicated to improving the lives of dogs.
