About this event
Presented in Spanish with English supertitles Lope de Vega's El Perro del Hortelano (The Dog in the Manger) is a sparkling comedy of desire, jealousy, and power. Countess Diana of Belflor proudly guards her independence and rejects all noble suitors-until she discovers that her secretary, Teodoro, is in love with Marcela, one of her ladies-in-waiting. Caught between pride and passion, Diana launches a clever and dangerous game of manipulation, where words become weapons and love a contest of control. Witty, seductive, and sharply observed, this Spanish Golden Age classic explores the fine line between desire and refusal, revealing how love, ambition, and social class collide-onstage and off. The City of Aventura proudly partners with FUNDarte and the Miami-Dade County Auditorium to bring this production to the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center.
