About This Event

What should future travel, development, and quality of life look like along Route 1 in Guilford? That is the question that the Town and the South Central Regional Council of Governments (SCRCOG) are asking community members as they develop the Guilford Route 1 Corridor Study. The study will look at existing and future land use, roadway characteristics, and economic and housing trends to propose improvements that meet Guilford’s future vision for the corridor. The study’s intent is to help make getting around safer and easier, support local businesses and help meet housing needs. The proposed study area encompasses Route 1 from the Branford town line to the Madison town line. The purpose of the study is to develop conceptual improvements and land use strategies along the corridor. “Planning for the Route 1 Corridor is essential as we seek to balance development with Guilford’s charm,” First Selectman Matt Hoey said. “Your input can shape this study, and the future of Route 1 in Guilford.” Public involvement is key to this effort. Residents and business owners can get involved through an upcoming online survey and public workshop. Visit the study webpage on the Town’s website to receive updates and share your perspective in a brief survey. There will be other ways for the community to help shape the study’s recommendations over the course of the project, including participating in focus groups and providing comments on all study documents.A Public Workshop will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, at the Community Center, 32 Church St. The plan will be completed in early 2027. SCRCOG, in consultation with the Town of Guilford, has hired a consultant team, IMEG, to lead this effort. IMEG has extensive urban planning and economic development planning experience and is based in Hartford.
