About This Event

This virtual course begins on October 2 and ends on November 7. All other sessions are Thursday evening discussions from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on October 8, 15, 22, & 29. Healing Haunted Histories is more than a book study. It is an invitation into a journey of faith, discovery, truth-telling, repair, and transformation--a journey toward the Beloved Community Jesus calls us to embody. It is a journey into your own family story. Drawing on Elaine Enns and Ched Myers' Healing Haunted Histories: A Settler Discipleship of Decolonization, participants will explore the intersections of land, ancestry, history, race, faith, and community through the Landlines-Bloodlines-Songlines framework. Together, we will engage social analysis, communal narratives, historical research, biblical reflection, and the stories of the places and peoples who have formed us. This is not passive learning. Participants will undertake their own research, listen deeply to one another, wrestle honestly with difficult histories, and explore practices of reparation, restorative justice, and Restorative Solidarity. Healing Haunted Histories fundamentally changed the way I understand myself and the work of Beloved Community. Our liberation is bound together--the liberation of Indigenous people, Black people, BIPOC communities, and my own liberation as a white man. This work is about life. It is about love. And frankly, y'all, it is about salvation. Steve Taylor, United Methodist Home Missioner Whether you have been engaged in the work of racial and restorative justice for decades or are just beginning to examine your own story, there is a place for you in this journey.
