Known for an expansive creative practice that crosses sculpture, installation, technology, environmental intervention, and collaborative public art, Chin uses art to engage with complex social, political, and environmental issues. Through images and conversation, explore groundbreaking projects from throughout his influential career and the ideas that continue to shape his work. About the Artist Mel Chin (b. 1951, Houston, Texas) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work addresses environmental, political, and social issues through a wide range of media and collaborative approaches. He earned a B.A. from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University in 1975. Chin's landmark projects include Revival Field (1990), a pioneering work exploring the use of plants to remove toxic metals from contaminated soil, and Unmoored (2018), a large-scale public installation in New York City's Times Square. His work has been exhibited internationally, including a major 40-year survey at the Queens Museum in New York. Chin is a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. REGISTER
