Join FreeInterested in creative writing, poetry, storytelling, and/or visual art? Join us for a free workshop introducing the inaugural Jule Museum Award for Creative Writing, a new competition for Auburn University undergraduates. The award recognizes outstanding ekphrastic writing in response to art on view within our Grand Gallery. The recipient receives $250, the opportunity to publish their work in The Auburn Circle, and will appear on stage at The Jule to read alongside both our poet-in-residence A. Van Jordan and the recipient of the Auburn Witness Poetry Prize honoring Jake Adam York on Oct. 15, 2026. The deadline to enter online is Sept. 20th, 2026. During this workshop, you'll explore examples of ekphrastic writing from acclaimed poets and writers, spend time in the Grand Gallery, and begin generating ideas inspired by works on view. The session includes guided discussion, individual writing time, and tips for developing your submission. Learn more about ekphrasis writing, competition requirements, and the judges. Attendance is not required to compete, but is strongly encouraged.
