The year is 1898, and Amanda (Marketta Tikkanen) arrives at the institution on the island of Seili in the Finnish archipelago. She has been committed after living a wandering, decadent life, marked by episodes of madness once a month caused by severe menstrual pain. Amanda considers her stay on the island strictly temporary, but as she begins to form bonds with the other women, doubt takes root. Marketta Tikkanen shines in the lead role, supported by Alma Pöysti, Krista Kosonen and Aamu Milonoff, who together create a richly layered gallery of female fates in a genuinely affecting drama.
