Columbia Covered Bridge Dance

On September 12th, a first ever bridge dance will be held at the Columbia Covered Bridge that connects Columbia, NH to Lemington, VT. The event will take place from 4-8 PM, on the bridge and Columbia Bridge Road, with parking available on the Vermont side of the Connecticut River. Neighbors are invited to bring potluck dishes to share, as well as a chair to hang out. Live music will be offered by Tom Frizzell of Lemington, and fellow musicians. Dancing will take place on the bridge! Historic displays will also be present to browse, and reminisce about the past. The first bridge crossing on this site was constructed in 1820. The current Columbia Covered Bridge was built from 1911-1912 by Charles Babbitt, after a fire destroyed the previous bridge, and is the third bridge to stand on the site. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and rehabilitated by the state of New Hampshire in 1981. The bridge is one of only two New Hampshire bridges built with Howe trusses, and is one of the last covered bridges built in the historic era of covered bridge construction in both states. This special event is being organized by the Town of Columbia in partnership with neighbors across the river in Lemington, VT. Please note that the bridge will not be passable by vehicles during the event time, so it is recommended to use the Bridge Street bridge in Colebrook, or the bridge from Bloomfield to Stratford, if crossing the river.
