Brevard Humane Society Invites Community to Annual Blessing of the Animals on St. Francis Feast Day Community members are invited to bring their beloved pets to Heavenly Paws Chapel for a special afternoon of blessing, fellowship and celebration. COCOA, Fla. -- The Brevard Humane Society will welcome pets and the people who love them to a special Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 4, at 4 p.m. at Heavenly Paws Chapel, located at 1020 Cox Road in Cocoa. Held in recognition of St. Francis Feast Day, the event offers members of the community an opportunity to gather with their beloved animal companions and celebrate the joy, comfort and companionship animals bring to our lives. St. Francis of Assisi was born in the 12th century, lived in Italy, and founded the men's Order of Friars Minor, the women's Order of St. Clare, and the Third Order of Saint Francis for men and women not able to live the lives of itinerant preachers. Francis is one of the most venerated religious figures in history. He is remembered for his generosity to the poor, his willingness to minister to the lepers, and for his love for animals and nature. He is the Catholic Church's patron saint of animals and the environment. The Padre will offer individual blessings for the animals beginning at 4 p.m., followed by light refreshments. The event is open to community members and their pets. For the safety and comfort of everyone attending, all pets must be vaccinated and must remain on a leash or safely secured in a pet carrier.
