Join FreeJoin us for the Open House at Horn Point Laboratory! The theme for the 2026 event is Adventure Awaits at Horn Point Lab. Find out about cutting edge research our faculty and graduate students conduct in the Chesapeake Bay and across the world's waterways. Explore environmental science through engaging exhibits and hands-on activities. Open house is free and takes place rain or shine. Fun for all ages! Activities include: Exploring the oyster hatchery where hundreds of millions (sometimes a billion!) baby oysters are produced each year Interactive science displays and activities designed and staffed by Horn Point Lab scientists including wave tank demonstrations, touch tank, and learning to be a genetic detective to investigate Bay grasses Children's science-themed crafts and scavenger hunt activity Free t-shirts for children Go aboard the UMCES flagship research vessel Rachel Carson Food vendors including Hooked on Seafood; Chilly Billy Ice Cream; baked goods, popcorn and cotton candy sales to support graduate student fundraising; lemonade sales to support the Horn Point Lab Chapter of SWMS.
