The City of Chelsea Veterans Services Division is pleased to announce a series of Memorial Day observances taking place throughout the month of May. These events honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to the nation and reflect the City's enduring commitment to remembrance and civic duty. Members of the public, veterans, and community organizations are encouraged to attend, and volunteers are needed for flag placing ceremonies on May 7 and May 21.FLAG PLACING CEREMONY AT WOODLAWN CEMETERYVolunteers Wanted!Thursday, May 7 | 10 a.m.Woodlawn Cemetery, 302 Elm St., EverettThe City of Chelsea will host a Flag Placing Ceremony at Woodlawn Cemetery. The ceremony will begin at the Naval Lot, identified by the anchor at its entrance, and proceed to the GAR Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Lot, identified by the cannons at its entrance. Community members are welcome to attend and participate in the flag placement. Volunteers are needed to assist with flag placement. To express interest in volunteering, please contact the Chelsea Veterans Services Office at 617-466-4250.MEMORIAL DAY ART EXHIBITION OPENING RECEPTIONWednesday, May 20 | 5-7 p.m.Chelsea City Hall Art Gallery, 2nd Floor, 500 Broadway, Chelsea, MAThe City of Chelsea and local Army Vietnam War veteran Ron Robinson invite the community to the May 20 opening reception of a group art exhibition honoring fallen veterans. The exhibition, on view May 18 through June 19 in Chelsea City Hall's East Wing Gallery, explores themes of service, sacrifice, and remembrance with a special focus on local veterans. The exhibit was initiated by Robinson—a social worker, community activist, and co-founder of the Lewis H. Latimer Society & Museum—and is supported by the City Manager's Office and the Veterans Services Department. A formal speaking program is expected and a continental lunch will be provided following the ceremony.FIELD OF HONOR — FLAG PLACEMENTVolunteers wanted!Thursday, May 21 | 5 - 6:30 p.m.Chelsea Square, in front of Chelsea Police Station, 12 Park St., Chelsea, MAThe City of Chelsea will conduct its annual Field of Honor flag placement at Chelsea Square. This coordinated effort involves personnel from the Chelsea Fire Department, Police Department, Office of Emergency Management, the Department of Public Works, and community volunteers. The event is open to the public, and all are welcome to participate in this tribute to fallen service members.
