Sewing Basics: Stitch Your First Tote

If you've been meaning to learn how to sew--or you've had a sewing machine tucked away for years--this class is the perfect place to start. In this beginner-friendly workshop, you'll learn essential sewing skills while making a practical and stylish handmade tote bag. We'll walk through the basics step by step, including how to thread and operate a sewing machine, cut fabric, sew straight seams, and finish your pieces with confidence. Along the way, you'll pick up tips and techniques that will set you up for future sewing success. Whether you're starting from scratch or just need a refresher, this is a relaxed, supportive environment where you can learn at your own pace. What's Included: - Step-by-step guidance from an experienced instructor - Tote pattern and nylon webbing for straps - There are a limited number of sewing machines - please let us know if you will be needing one to use. Optional Items to Bring: - Your own sewing machine to learn how to use your machine (must be in known working condition) - A sewing kit, scissors, pins, etc. - Fabric you want to sew with (1/2 yard of interior fabric, 1/2 yard of exterior fabric for the bag). We have a large selection of fabrics at the store that you may purchase for $10. - By the end of the session, you'll leave with two finished items and the skills--and motivation--to keep sewing long after the class ends.
