About This Event

Celebrate Buffalo Day with a special lecture and conversation that brings national history home through compelling presidential stories deeply connected to Western New York. This program features a presentation and dialogue with Spencer Morgan, Site Superintendent and Executive Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site, and Rachelle Moyer Francis, Curator for Millard Fillmore Presidential Site and Trustee for Buffalo Presidential Center. Together, they explore how Buffalo became an unlikely but powerful stage for pivotal moments in American presidential history Morgan's presentation, From National Tragedy to American Legend, examines the moment Theodore Roosevelt assumed the presidency in Buffalo following the assassination of President William McKinley--and how that day transformed Roosevelt into a defining figure in American leadership. Moyer Francis follows with Presidents Visit Chautauqua, a lively look at the city's outsized role in shaping presidential narratives, legacy, and memory.
