About This Event

Looking for a way to get more involved in shaping Victoria’s future? The City of Victoria is now accepting applications for an alternate seat on the Victoria Planning Commission. The Planning Commission plays an important role in guiding how our community grows and develops. Members review site plans, subdivisions, zoning requests, and other land use topics, then provide recommendations to the City Council. It is a great opportunity to learn more about how decisions are made and to help ensure development aligns with Victoria’s long-term vision. Alternates attend meetings regularly and step in to vote when a regular member is absent. If a full seat becomes available, alternates may also have the opportunity to move into that role. This is a flexible way to get started in local government while still making a meaningful impact. Meetings are typically held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. While alternates only vote when needed, they are expected to attend meetings, stay engaged in discussions, and review materials in advance. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Victoria. Applications will be accepted through 4:30 p.m. on April 30, 2026. The City Council will interview candidates during a workshop on Monday, May 11, 2026, and applicants will be contacted with additional details. If you have ever been curious about how development decisions are made or are looking for a way to serve your community, this is a great place to start.
