Join FreeWe continue to encourage the community to attend the Northwest Indiana Forum’s informational meeting on data centers at 5:30 p.m. June 11 at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center, 6600 Broadway. This meeting will feature presentations from Kimley-Horn, Merrillville Data Center Citizen Advisory Committee Member Steve Muenstermann Sr., and NIPSCO. Residents also will have the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions and ask questions directly to industry professionals. The Data Center Citizen Advisory Committee also will be in attendance to interact with the community during breakout sessions. The Merrillville Town Council recently enacted a one-year moratorium on new data center project approvals to allow officials time to carefully study the potential impacts of large hyperscale data center developments. This proactive approach will help ensure town leaders have the information needed to make thoughtful, informed decisions as they plan for the future of The Heart of the Region. The decision to enact the moratorium has no effect on the planning of the informational meeting. The Citizen Advisory Committee also will continue to meet while the moratorium is in place.
