Member Volunteer Mornings: Ancient Plant Garden

You will be sent additional instructions and will need to complete a waiver form, as outlined below, to participate.  Saturday, August 29, 2026 9:30am-12pm San Francisco Botanical Garden -- Ancient Plant Garden About the Program Members are invited to spend the morning learning about and helping care for the Ancient Plant Garden. This is the first of our quarterly Member Volunteer Morning series. Enjoy coffee and chat with the Fernies, a dedicated group of volunteers who help steward our remarkable fern collections. Discover the fern species featured in the Ancient Plant Garden, explore their place in plant evolution, and learn how they have adapted over time. Then, join fellow members for a hands-on volunteer session to help care for the collection with guidance from our horticulture staff. Whether you're a returning volunteer or joining us for the first time, this is a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow members, learn more about the Gardens, and contribute to its care. Schedule: 9:30-10am -- Coffee and learn more about the collection 10am-12pm -- Guided volunteer session Coffee and light snacks will be provided. This event is open to participants ages 15 and over. Meeting Point:   Ancient Plant Garden in the San Francisco Botanical Garden (Link to Google Map).  How to Prepare:    Wear long pants and close-toed shoes (no sandals); boots that can be worn in garden beds are recommended  Bring reusable water bottles  Use appropriate weather protection (ie sunscreen, hat, etc.)   Personal items must stay with you during the volunteer service activity, so we recommend leaving laptops and other valuables at home   Coffee and light snacks will be provided.  Feel free to bring your lunch if you wish to picnic in the Botanical Garden afterwards  Space is limited. Heavy rain or wind cancels. Waiver Requirement : Each participant who is 18 years or older must sign a Volunteer Agreement, Waiver, and Photo Release unless they already have an active Gardens Better Impact account. All youth under the age of 18 must have a completed Minor Consent Waiver filled out by their legal guardian or parent.   You will be sent additional instructions after registration and will need to complete an appropriate waiver form as outlined above to participate.   About Member Volunteer Mornings Member Volunteer Mornings is a quarterly series that brings members together to connect, learn, and volunteer. Each event highlights a different garden, offering behind-the-scenes insights and the opportunity to help care for the garden with guidance from our horticulture team.
