America at 250: Women and American Democracy

Join community leaders, advocates, and civic organizations for an engaging evening exploring the vital role women have played--and continue to play--in advancing democratic inclusion in America. As part of the History Center's America 250 commemoration, this special Women's Equality Day program will examine how women's leadership has expanded civic participation, increased access to opportunity, and helped shape a more representative democracy. The evening will feature a panel discussion moderated by award-winning journalist Sandra Maas. Panelists will include: Gail Friedt, Chair, San Diego City Commission on the Status of Women Dr. Amy Nantkes, Commissioner, San Diego County Commission on the Status of Women and Girls Jane Andrews, President, League of Women Voters San Diego Dr. Kimala Price, Chair, San Diego State University Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Women's Equality Day is observed annually on August 26 to commemorate the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which granted women the constitutional right to vote.
