The History & Legacy of Eugenics in Montana Presented by Casey Pallister Sept. 17, 2026 @ Noon Western Heritage Center Sponsored by Montana Arts Council, C&A Grant We are funded in part by coal severance taxes paid based upon coal mined in Montana and deposited in Montana's cultural and aesthetic projects trust fund. This presentation will examine the growth of eugenics in the United States in the late 19th and 20th centuries with a specific focus on how it developed and took shape in Montana, from baby contests at county fairs to sterilizations at institutions.
