PROGRAM DETAILS American Indian Cultural District, with support from Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture, displays two of a group of four artist-created spheres for public art display. Through these works, artists Drew Valencia (Ohlone and Kashia Pomo), and Edward Redbird Willie (Pomo, Wintu, Paiute, and Wailaki) transform large-scale globes into powerful expressions of Native resilience, cultural revitalization, and healing. Together, the spheres center Indigenous perspectives while celebrating the enduring presence, creativity, and visibility of Native American peoples. The spheres appear in the lobby of Landmark Building D, First Floor, adjacent to commissioned murals by Brittany Burrows (Nomlaki-Wintun, Pomo) and Jewelina Acosta (Yokaia). Kick-start letterpress learning at the SF Children's Art Center's family-friendly printing pop-up 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. FOR-SITE, in partnership with Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture, proudly presents Attentive Earth at the Guardhouse, a new installation by Oakland, CA-based artists Muzae Sesay and Alexcia Sundra, on view from September 17, 2026 through January 24, 2027. The artists construct a provocative future for humanity in this collaborative exhibition. Staged inside the historic former Guardhouse at the entrance to Fort Mason, Attentive Earth uses short-form video, painting, and archives to bring this speculative world to life. The narrative follows an underground group of scientists who occupy Fort Mason, turning it into a protective fortress where artifacts and memories are collected and documented. By directly engaging with Fort Mason's history as a coastal defense site, the artists powerfully prompt viewers to question what in our modern world requires fortified protection. Fort Mason Art presents The Sea Is But Another Sky, a painting commission for the passageway between Buildings B and C. Artist Leah Rosenberg highlights the fundamentals of Fort Mason Center's site: the setting sun, the rising moon, the San Francisco Bay Waters, and the wind that dapples across their interaction. As an artist who studies the color in everyday life, Rosenberg remakes buildings and public spaces with exuberant visions of local conditions. On the cusp of Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture's 50th anniversary as a nonprofit home for arts and culture, Rosenberg folds the campus' natural environment onto its former military buildings - buildings designed to send people and material half a world away. In her mural alley project, however, Rosenberg stays close: the edge of the San Francisco Bay spills out and onto 18 loading docks, here remade into discrete painting blocks. The waters ripple across continuous walls beneath pedestrian walkways, and the interplay of both pulls you forward into the site itself. The Interval At Long Now invites all to the Long-Term Thinking Artifacts Tours to see an expanded exhibition that tells the story of long-term thinking via a fascinating collection of Long Now artifacts. See the Orrery that stands at the entrance to The Interval today. A full-sized face from the 10,000-year clock being built in Texas and a scale model of the clock's chime generator helps visitors understand the massive scale of the clock monument. Dive deep into the past and explore the future with artist Casey Cripe discussing his painting, The Long Now. This four-by-12 foot work depicts a timeline of the long now itself - the next and last 10,000 years, stretching from the dawn of human agricultural civilization into the far future. Magic Theatre, for nearly six decades, has been a place where artists change the course of American theater. Founded in 1967, Magic has developed work that has expanded the possibilities of contemporary drama and influenced generations of artists who followed. Today, that commitment means creating opportunities for artists of all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to develop new work, reach new audiences, and shape the future of storytelling. Tonight, visitors can experience the inaugural offering in Magic Theatre's new series, SEAT ONE, where one audience member at a time experiences a performance created especially for them. Sarah Nina Hayon, Magic Theatre's Artistic Director, alternately performs two monologues written by Joey Palestina. Hock Of Flesh and Fruitopium - Person 2121, are intimate, unsettling, and darkly comic. Palestina, an actor, playwright, poet, and musician, is best known for portraying Sargeant Mikey Fries in HBO's We Own This City. He is a member of LAByrinth Theater Company and the Playwrights Directors Unit at The Actors Studio in New York. San Francisco Children's Art Center (SFCAC) invites all to get inky with a hands-on exploration of family-friendly letterpress and block printing techniques. Artists of all ages are welcome to visit the art studio and roll up their sleeves to design and pull their own print on SFCAC's small but-mighty printing press. Be sure to continue your evening's letterpress discoveries with a tour at Arion Press and their 6:30 p.m. hosted talk with type experts from C.C. Stern Type Foundry.
