This is our fifth event in the Land Justice series, and we are fortunate that Haley Shea, PhD, a member of the Myaamia Tribe, is coming to speak at Shepherd's Corner. The title of her talk is nahi miiciona nahi weehsininki 'proper foods, proper diet': Asserting sovereignty and promoting wellbeing through food. This program highlights the history of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, efforts of a decades-long revitalization movement, and recent efforts in asserting tribal sovereignty through a reclamation of Indigenous foodways. Haley is the Director of the Office of Assessment and Evaluation at the Myaamia Center in Oxford, OH. She is also a member of the Neepwaayoni Acquisition and Assessment Team (NAAT), examining the many factors that have contributed to positive outcomes (e.g. community engagement, attendance at tribal events, sense of belongingness, etc.) within the Myaamia community. She has published extensively and we are thrilled that she is coming to Shepherd's Corner. We'll enjoy a sampling of light foods made from recipes provided by the Myaamia Tribe.
