Special Volunteer Shift and Mexican Independence Day Concert

To celebrate Mexican Independence Day, which is September 16, and Hispanic Heritage Month (which starts September 15), Houston Food Bank is excited to welcome the amazing Mariachi Pumas from University of Houston for a live performance at our Portwall facility! Don't miss their concert during a special evening volunteer shift on Wednesday, September 16 from 6-9 pm which will give volunteers time to enjoy the show and enjoy a special $12 dinner special, which includes your choice of cheese enchiladas or build-your-own tacos and a drink in our Texans Cafe. Register now for the evening's shift and celebration! The Mariachi Pumas, established in 2019 within The Moores School of Music, is the university's first collegiate mariachi band. The ensemble was founded under the direction of José Longoria, a professional mariachi musician and longtime Houston mariachi educator. The Mariachi Pumas are a particularly interesting Houston story because they're much more than a student mariachi band - they were created in part to reflect Houston's cultural diversity and to give mariachi a formal place within a major university music program.
