About This Event

The National POW/MIA Recognition Day Ceremony in Columbus will be on Friday, Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bartholomew County Memorial for Veterans behind the Courthouse. The event will be held rain or shine. The ceremony usually lasts an hour. A bell will be rung after the reading of each of the 63 service men and women from our area that were either declared POW, MIA or both. The Special Guest Speaker this year will be Guy Tedesco. Guy will also be involved that weekend in an event at the Italian P.O.W. Chapel of Our Lady in the Meadow in Camp Atterbury. Also participating at this year's ceremony will be: ~ Columbus Indiana Children's Choir ~ Emcee, Zack Ellison, Marine Veteran ~ National Anthem, Matthew Piller ~ Pastor Harvey Leggett, Former Marine for invocation and benediction ~ Vocalist, Harvey Leggett ~ POW-MIA Reading of the names by Chris Fitzsimmons, Iraq War Veteran ~ Bell Rung after each name is read by Deb Kleinschmidt, Gold Star Mother ~ Bugler, Michael Schmelz, Columbus City Band ~ Bartholomew County Honor Guard ~ Southern Indiana Pipes and Drums ~ Music and Sound provided by Mike Asher, Midnight Express Entertainment
