The core lineupDavid Hidalgo, Louie Perez, Cesar Rosas, Conrad Lozano, and former Blasters saxophonist Steve Berlingained critical acclaim with their 1984 debut, How Will the Wolf Survive?, tying Bruce Springsteen as Rolling Stones Artist of the Year.They achieved global commercial stardom in 1987 with their chart-topping cover of Ritchie Valens La Bamba.
