About This Event

Join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Feast of Saint Mary the Virgin. The Associate Rector, Mo Major, will preach. From the earliest days of the church, Mary has been venerated as the mother of our Lord, and the Gospels give us glimpses of her quiet strength--receiving the angel's announcement with trust, nurturing Jesus in Nazareth, accompanying him throughout his ministry, standing faithfully at the foot of the cross, and praying with the disciples in the upper room until Pentecost. Her Magnificat reveals a heart shaped by Scripture and attuned to God's justice, echoing themes later sounded in Jesus' own preaching. While later devotion has woven many legends around her, Scripture itself establishes her unique place among the saints: she was closest to Jesus in the years that formed him, and she remained steadfast in faith at every stage of his life. Thus the church has long believed that she holds a place of special honor.
