About This Event

Join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene. The Associate Rector, Mo Major, will preach. On this day, we lift up the devoted disciple who was among Jesus' closest followers and the first witness to his resurrection. A woman from Magdala, near Capernaum, Mary was healed by Jesus, who cast out seven demons from her, transforming her life completely. Thereafter, she joined the group of women who accompanied and supported Jesus and his disciples in their ministry. The Gospels portray her as steadfast and faithful, remaining near the cross as Jesus suffered and later going to his tomb to mourn and anoint his body. In her grief, she encountered the risen Christ, who revealed himself by calling her name. Commissioned by Jesus to announce his resurrection to the disciples, she became the first messenger of the good news--hence her traditional titles, apostle to the apostles and equal to the apostles in the Eastern Church. Mary Magdalene stands as a model of healing, love, and unwavering faith, reminding the Church that true discipleship is rooted in both devotion to Christ and bold witness to his risen life.
