The pre-fireworks tribute will honor the sacrifices made by North Hempstead residents who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans and active-duty military members, along with their families, are invited to attend this meaningful event, which brings the greater North Hempstead community together in gratitude and remembrance. “Taking the time to recognize and thank our veterans is one of the most important things we can do as a nation,” said Supervisor DeSena. “There is no America 250 without these men and women, so this is our way of making sure their sacrifices are never forgotten.” The complimentary barbecue for veterans, active-duty service members and their families begins at 4:30 p.m. and will be followed by a special recognition ceremony at 6 p.m., during which participants will receive Town proclamations from local officials. Attendees will receive free parking or may take advantage of complimentary shuttle service to and from the event at Clinton G. Martin Park in New Hyde Park. Return shuttle service will operate on a staggered schedule to accommodate attendees who may need to leave before the conclusion of the event and fireworks display.
